Cologuard is just Mailing Poop in a Box, Right?

I admit to enjoying seeing this little sweet cartoon guy walking around assuring me that it’s easy for me to be proactive about the health of my colon.  The images are soothing and it seems very convenient and forward thinking.  But, somewhere in the medical jargon and the clever voiceover – am I missing something?

I mean, the cartoon guy is a cardboard box.  So….you take a dump in this box and mail it to a lab?  Could that even be legal?  Can I hand this to my mailman? Leave it in the outgoing mail slot?  It is sold as this advanced way to diagnose colorectal issues, and it feels like something I would have done at a 6th grade sleepover?
